A recently discovered material could make solar cells more efficient.


Silicon is currently used in most solar panels. But perovskite – a new material with a promising future  CaTiO3– may give it a run for its money. At research centres, both camps are looking to boost their technology. “The solution would probably be to combine the two materials”, says Sylvain Nicolay of the Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology.

“It would bring productivity above 30%.”
