By now everyone knows that methane is a greenhouse gas that contributes significantly to climate change. Finland’s VTT Technical Research Centre has taken on the challenge of turning small quantities of methane biogas – from farms, landfills or water treatment stations – into useful material for animal food or bioplastics manufacturing. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase the use of biogas and decrease soy imports as a food source on farms.
